Meet Chris VanDijk: Your Candidate for House District 32
As a firefighter, I've dedicated myself to serving our community. I'm committed to bringing that same passion and dedication as your advocate in the state legislature.

Living and working in our district, I’ve had the privilege and honor of responding to your homes during some of your most difficult days. I’ve gained a close, personal view of the struggles we face as a community—whether it’s the escalating mental health crisis among youth in our schools, a frustrating lack of access to healthcare, or zoning laws that hinder the construction of affordable housing and undermine cohesive communities.
These are challenges we can address together.
I had a coach who taught us that the best of me is “we.” This isn’t just a slogan; it’s a guiding principle. I am committed to promoting collaboration and ensuring every community member is heard. Together, we can create a district that embodies our shared values and aspirations.

As the son of an immigrant, I was instilled with a sense of service, a way to give back for the opportunities we’ve been given. My grandfather served in WWII and Korea, and my grandparents were prisoners of war in Indonesia. After immigrating to the United States, my father and four of his six siblings served, a tradition I continued.

It's about us!
My commitment to public service is rooted in the belief that progress comes from collective effort and respect for the common good. There are countless ways to serve, and in 2014, I joined the South Adams County Fire Department. Changing careers was a leap of faith. I had spent many years in the arts before deciding to be a stay-at-home dad to our young son. When the opportunity presented itself to impact my community directly, I grabbed it with both hands. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
As a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, I've seen how policy can impact our safety and change lives. While still serving as a firefighter, I returned to graduate school where I earned a Master's of Public Policy from the University of Colorado, Denver. My studies took me around the world, where I met and learned from elected leaders, firefighters, aid workers, and diplomats in countries shaped by ongoing conflict and war.
I intend to take these lessons to the Colorado legislature, where I will serve as your voice and advocate for the residents of our district.

From Reunion to Welby, Belle Creek to Adams City, and River Run to Derby, I’ll ensure you have a strong voice and a dedicated advocate in the state house.
